We give a big welcome to donors!

Upon arrival, they are first screened by our medical officer. Selection is done based on medical history, physical examination and Hb estimation.

At the Bank, blood collection is done in a well lit, air conditioned room. Blood is drawn by a phlebotomist in the presence of a medical officer. A blood collection monitor is used to draw the exact quantity of blood.

The blood is taken to the sampling counter. Here, samples are taken in pilot tubes both plain and with EDTA. The tube is stripped twice and segments made with the help of a sealer. The needle is destroyed.

The bags are then transported to the components lab.

They are weighed and balanced in plastic buckets.

The bags are then centrifuged at specified speed for a specified time.

After centrifugation, components formed are transferred to attached satellite bags which are part of a closed system.

The components are kept in appropriate storage areas, at the required temperatures.

Blood samples collected in pilot tubes are sent to Infectious Marker Testing lab for testing HIV I & II, HBsAg, HCV by automated microprocessor.

Blood grouping is done by Mitis-2 system. The samples are processed in batches and results read by a reader.

Testing of blood for malarial parasite and haemogram is done by QBC system. VDRL testing is then performed for all the samples.

Blood bags are then labelled according to their blood group.

Once a unit is out of quarantine it reaches the issue lab where it is kept in the appropriate storage area. On receiving the requisition for blood (signed by a doctor), units are crossmatched with patient's blood and issued.

The issue lab is open round the clock.
