Components

SRKRC is licensed to issue whole blood and following blood components-

1.	RCC (Red Cell Concentrate)
	This product is indicated in anemia and for the patients having blood loss during surgery, due to accidents, because of the obstetric and gynecological complications etc.

2.	FFP (Fresh Frozen Plasma)
	Patients having liver disorders and bleeding disorders mainly need FFP.

3.	RDP (Random Donor Platelet)/ SDP (Single Donor Platelets) by apheresis procedure
	This product is product is for patients suffering from bleeding disorders. SRKRC staff prepares random donor and single donor platelets (SDP). SDP are obtained on Cell Separator machine using apheresis procedure.

4.	Cryoprecipitate
	Cryoprecipitate or anti-hemophilic factor is required for hemophilia patients having coagulation factor VIII deficiency. It is also useful to save life of the patient suffering from disseminated coagulation disorder (DIC)

5.	Saline Washed RCC
	This product is given to patients who had already been given multiple transfusions, for example, Thalassemia patients.

6.	Leukoreduced RCC
	Leukoreduced products will minimize the risks of febrile transfusion reaction. It is preferably given to immunocompromised or thalassemic patients.

Apheresis

SDP is collected by apheresis procedure. It is required in patients with very low platelet count as platelet yield in a single unit is equal to 5 to 6 units of RDP.

Compatibility procedures

An error in ABO or Rh grouping of a patient or a cross match incompatibility can have the most serious effects on the patient in the form of hemolytic transfusion reactions and may even be fatal.
We perform :

•	ABO grouping
•	Rh grouping
•	Major crossmatching
•	Minor crossmatching

Patient’s blood samples, once received are checked for compatibility (cross match techniques) with donor samples of the same blood group. Only compatible blood is issued.

Blood grouping is done manually by tube method and also by fully automated immunohematology system ‘Diagast”.

Compatibility procedures take one half hour at least.
Blood is issued within half an hour by doing emergency crossmatching if the patient is critical and needs urgent blood.

Specialized serology procedures

•	Antiglobulin testing (direct and indirect coomb’s test)
•	Antibody detection and identification

TTI testing

It is mandatory to test the donated blood for HIV I/II, Hepatitis B and C viruses, Syphilis and Malaria.
The tests are done using highly sensitive third generation ELISA kits after informed consent of the donors.
