Processing Time

Once you submit samples and requisition form, you are given a particular time when the blood/component will be issued.

Urgency of your demand is always considered first but still, certain procedures takes time so it is never possible to issue any unit immediately. It also depends on the type of component you require.

Though following detail gives an idea of how much time will be taken for a particular component, it depends on the availability of the required component at that time.

•	Red Cell Concentrate (RCC) – two hours (grouping and cross matching procedures are to be done)
•	Saline washed RCC – two hours
•	Platelet concentrate (RDP) – one hour (serum grouping is to be done) if the unit is available. If not, time depends on availability and selection of donor
•	Single Donor Platelet (SDP) – no particular time is given as it depends on selection of the donor
•	FFP/Cryo – two hours (The unit is stored in frozen state. It needs to be liquefied before issue)
•	Cryo- one hour (the unit is in frozen state so needs to be thawed

If the patient’s condition is serious, RCC can be given after half an hour (emergency cross matching is done) but only after a talk with the treating physician.
